Diabetes is Pandemic in America

Diabetes is at pandemic levels in America.

An estimated 9 per cent of American adults are diabetic, with 14 percent of American health care expenditure going towards diabetes treatment and related complications.

Excessive thirst, drinking more and urinating more are the most frequent initial signs of diabetes . Further symptoms can be: impaired vision and excessive hunger, weight loss in spite of higher food intake, fatigue, nausea and numbness in people's hands and feet.

Type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes have various causes and treatments.

Just 5 per cent of individuals are type 1 diabetic, which is when your pancreas fails to control blood sugar levels .

The remaining 95 percent are type 2 diabetic, due to a deficiency in the body's cells to use insulin .

Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, is triggered by obesity and lack of exercise.

This can on the whole be avoided by eating healthily and getting loads of exercise.

Similarly, type 2 diabetes may to an extent be managed through diet and exercise; whereas, unfortunately, type 1 diabetes can purely be managed by medications.
