Top Five Diabetes Preventative Measures

Tue, 06 Sep 2011
The American National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health has discovered that five specific healthy lifestyle factors have considerable effect on whether or not you develop diabetes.

All five lifestyle factors taken together meant a 72 per cent risk reduction in the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes for men and an 84 per cent risk reduction for women over a ten year period.

The lifestyle factors referenced for this study were: not smoking, a healthy diet, frequent exercise, moderate alcohol consumption and a healthy Body Mass Index of between 18.5 and 24.9.

When all the healthy lifestyle factors were combined the researchers witnessed how considerably they lower the risk of diabetes.

Moreover, the study found that the decrease in the likelihood of developing diabetes by adapting these healthy lifestyle factors equally applied to those who have family members who are or have been diabetic or not .

This means that those who have diabetes within their family history are just as able to remain healthy than those without such history.
