Swap Soft Drinks for Water and Cut Your Risk of Diabetes by 7 Per Cent

Swapping fizzy drinks with water can considerably reduce your risk of diabetes and heart disease, according to health experts.

Harvard University scientists are highlighting new research evidence which demonstrates that replacing sugar-sweetened drinks with water can trigger weight loss and lower the risk of Type 2 diabetes by 7 per cent.

Several studies have already been undertaken which show that regular sugar consumption is related to an increased risk of obesity and diabetes. Further evidence has recently appeared which highlights that soft drinks also up the risk of heart disease.

It is vital to replace soft drinks with water or unsweetened tea or coffee to lower the risk of obesity and heart disease.

Nearly 2.8 million people in Britain have type 2 diabetes, with another million considered to have pre-diabetes, so say NHS figures.

Diabetes UK states that 10 per cent of the entire NHS expenditure is spent on diabetes treatment and dealing with diabetes related complications.
