Losing weight and diabetes are integrally linked.

Should you be diabetic, you will have been informed that weight loss is key to your remaining healthy .

If you are overweight, it is essential that you keep your weight in check to ensure that your blood sugar levels are under control. Having excess or insufficient sugar in your blood can be dangerous to your health .

Exercise too plays a huge part in diabetes management, just as crucial as drugs or medicines.

It is vital that diabetic patients exercise for a minimum period of 30 minutes per day six days a week. Brisk walking is fine as are exercises, such as, aerobics, cycling, swimming or jogging.

Diabetics who are on insulin need to ensure that they have had a snack prior to exercise as they could have hypos after rigorous exercise or if they are not used to exercise. It is therefore vital to consult with your GP if you are about to undertake an exercise regime.

When it comes to diet, it ought to be planned as per your ideal body weight and level of exercise. Diabetics can eat complex carbohydrates, such as, fruit, veg and cereals. It is a myth that diabetics are not able to eat certain foods; they are able to eat more or less anything within the context of a planned diet in moderate amounts.
