High Blood Pressure Adds to Risk of Stroke

Recent research highlights that those with high blood pressure or pre hypertension, are 55 percent more susceptible to having a stroke in contrast to those with normal blood pressure .

High blood pressure is deemed to be the key risk factor for strokes.

Even slightly high blood pressure is considered to be a danger.

This analysis was conducted of 518,520 adults in 12 studies on blood pressure and occurrences of strokes.

The report also states that a third of American adults have pre hypertension.

It is important that lifestyle factors be changed to reduce such symptoms.

Present treatments for reducing pre-hypertension, described as a systolic blood pressure (where the heart pumps) of 120-139 or a diastolic blood pressure (when the heart is at rest) of 80-89, includes weight loss, exercise, lowering salt intake and ceasing smoking.

Medics could recommend drug treatments for those pre-hypertension as well as pre-diabetes and diabetes.
