Diabetes Explodes in Pennsylvania

Mon, 24 Oct 2011
Diabetes is an international epidemic and with central Pennsylvania being affected too.

The number of diagnosed diabetics has increased nearly fourfold in the last 25 years and carries on growing at an alarming rate.

In the USA, 19 million plus people have been diagnosed with diabetes, with another 7 million being pre-diabetic, however, being unaware that they have the condition.

79 million people in the U.S.A. are pre-diabetic and the majority are not aware of it, so says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. A third of Americans do not know they have a blood sugar problem.

Moreover, it has been forecast that 1 in 3 children who are born in the U.S.A. are going to develop diabetes when they are older.

The state Department of Health states that diabetes and related complications are the seventh-leading cause of death in the state of Pennsylvania.

It is important to prevent diabetes from happening. Should it develop then it is important to recognise it early in order that complications can be thwarted.
