The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has forecast that a minimum of 1 out of ten adults is likely to have diabetes by 2030.
The organisation stated that there could be over 552 million diabetics in twenty years' time due to aging and demographic changes.
Presently one out of 13 adults has diabetes .
This figure includes Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes and undiagnosed cases of diabetes.
The number of diabetics in Africa is expected to jump by 90 per cent, where infectious diseases have previously been the main killer.
The IDF's forecasted figures do not include the impact of increasing obesity could have on diabetic cases.
The World Health Organisation confirms that there are presently approximately 346 million people across the world with diabetes, with 80 percent of diabetes related deaths happening in developing countries.
WHO too projects diabetes deaths are going to double by 2030 and that the IDF's prediction is possible.
