The link between diabetes and smoking is becoming clearer.

Smoking we know causes heart attacks, strokes, cardiovascular disease, lung and several other cancers.

However, there is an growing need to understand that diabetes and smoking are closely related to each other.

Multiple studies have highlighted that smoking can lead to type 2 diabetes developing. The studies considered glucose abnormalities and showed that smoking can be independently linked to glucose intolerance .

This means that there is an extremely strong correlation between smoking and diabetes; studies have discovered that smoking leads to increased diabetes.

Heavy smokers are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to light smokers. Those who smoke 16 or more cigarettes every day had a 61 percent greater risk of developing diabetes than light smokers.

Smoking can cause diabetes as it leads to insulin resistance, ensuring a 50 percent likelihood of higher risk of diabetes amongst smokers of both genders.
