The Indian company Biocon has stated that prelimary data from late-stage clinical trials on its experimental oral insulin drug for diabetes has not achieved the results anicipated.
However, the company stated that it is still committed to developing the drug for worldwide consumption.
In the final-stage trials which were undertaken in India, IN-105 did not achieve its primary target of reducing HbA1c levels, or a haemoglobin count, in type 2 diabetics .
India's leading biotech company confirmed that diabetics were poorly controlled on the drug in contrast to those on a placebo.
However, the company added that the drug had achieved secondary targets on safety and efficacy .
The company is intending to to commence its search for a global pharmaceutical partner to further develop the drug for those with type 2 diabetes .
