Drug Companies Further Invest in Mob Phone Ap for Diabetics

Drug manufacturers, led by Merck and Co. and Novartis, increased investment in mobile phone applications as well as educational websites by 78 percent to enable diabetics to take their medication, eat well and exercise regularly.

In 2010, pharmaceutical companies started 97 projects aimed at utilising information technologies to boost diabetic patient health .

Governmental health plans are placing increasing pressure on drug manufacturers to prove the prices they charge for their products.

Hence, drug companies are playing a bigger role in ensuring that diabetes treatments are as successful as possible.

This year France cut its budget for drug spending by 560 million Euros, mainly by slashing medications which provide marginal benefits, researchers say. The UK intends to set drug payments to match product benefits from 2014.
