India intends to screen its entire population for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, strokes and cancer over the next five years.

The Health minister confirmed that a pilot project has been launched across a hundred districts of 21 states for early detection of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, strokes and cancer.

India is going to be a worldwide forerunner in screening its total population over the next five years.

The Indian government has set aside over £3 million for the pilot project, providing equipment and human resources for early detection and diabetes treatment, as well as treatment for the other chronic conditions.

There are approximately 2.7 million cases of cancer in India, with 1.1 million more every year with 500,000 dying from this condition each year.

Moreover, financial aid is provided to poor patients up to Rs 50,000 per case during this year, with just 2,202 cancer patients having received this help.
