China has overtaken India to become the world's Diabetes capital according to the most recent figures from the 5th edition of Diabetes Atlas.
China presently has 90 million diabetics, India follows around 61.3 million diabetics and the USA 23.7 million diabetics.
These mid November figures from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) have once again emphasised the speedy progress of the epidemic internationally whilst there is little preparation for the increasing number of diabetics worldwide.
2009 figures form the IDF placed India as the leading nation with the most number of diabetics, with 50.7 million diabetics .
In 2009, China has the second highest number of diabetics, at 42.3 million.
2010 saw a swing, with China's diabetic population rising to 92.4 million.
The latest edition of IDF figures places the number of diabetics in China at 90 million, ahead of all other countries.
