A Minute of Daily Exercise can Keep Diabetes at Bay

Researchers are claiming that a minute of daily exercise can keep diabetes at bay.

Three short cycle sprints could be sufficient to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes and possibly prevent it.

University of Bath scientists asked volunteers to undertake two 20-second cycle sprints on exercise bikes, three times a week.

Six weeks later the University's Department of Health researchers witnessed a 28% improvement in their insulin function.

Type 2 diabetes occurs when blood sugar levels increase to dangerously high levels as a result of insufficient insulin function, triggered by a sedentary lifestyle.

The condition can threaten your life as it can cause complications of the heart, eyes, limbs and kidneys.

Diabetes treatment and care also costs the NHS £1 million hourly.

Regular exercise can lower blood sugar levels. However, due to our busy lifestyles and minimal motivation, 66% of us do not undertake the recommended five 30-minute sessions of moderate exercise on a weekly basis.
