Eli Lilly and Lupin combine to sell anti-diabetes drugs.

Lupin has just announced that it is working with Eli Lilly to market and distribute the American company's range of anti-diabetes, including Huminsulin RTM, throughout India and Nepal.

Lupin's India business will market and distribute the anti-diabetes medicines throughout India and Nepal, almost doubling the number of sales reps for these diabetes care products alone. Diabetes is at epidemic proportions in the Indian subcontinent, with there being more than 30 million diabetics in India alone.

Diabetes is growing so fast in India that India is known as the diabetic capital of the world.

June 2011 data highlights the fact that the total Indian insulin market is valued at Rs 975 crore and Huminsulin is the second leading brand in the Indian insulin market.

Lupin will be responsible for all the PR and distribution for Huminsulin brand, total sales of the brand to date has been Rs 125 crore.

Shares of Lupin went up today by 1.15% at this news.
