Older diabetic women are more likely to get different types of colorectal cancer, so says recent research.
The link between diabetes and colon cancer is still in the process of being researched.
The study was of 37,695 volunteers from the Iowa Women's Health Study (IWHS), aged 55 and above
in 1986.
The Mayo Clinic doctors study discovered that 2,361 were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and 1,200 developed colorectal cancer.
The researchers understand that the relation between diabetes and colon cancer is related to to three different molecular markers: microsatellite instability (MSI), CpG island methylation (CIMP), and BRAF gene mutations.
