Due to the increase in obesity, diabetes cases in Derbyshire alone have doubled in the past decade.
Figures for over twelves with this illness have jumped from 21,300 to 40,000 plus in just a decade.
These figures come at a time when the number of obese people in the county hit a record 142,000 this year, which means that a quarter of all Derbyshire residents are obese .
Figures show that of the 571,274 adults who live in the county outside of Derby, 142,000 are listed as obese.
The entire county are being urged to get screened for diabetes.
The worst case scenario is diabetics losing limbs, getting kidney failure or going blind.
There are two kinds of diabetes. Type one diabetes you usuallly get when aged under 40, due to a shortage of cells producing insulin, which regulates the blood sugar levels.
Type 2 Diabetes is far more common, which impacts upon those aged over 40 and is related more so to obesity.
Obesity can trigger high blood sugar levels which means that that individual is at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes .
It is better to be pre emptive and lower the likelihood of your getting diabetes by leading eating a heathy diet and undertaking exercise on a regular basis.
