Type 2 Diabetics Increase in Guernsey

The number of individuals with type 2 diabetes has increased in Guernsey, so say most recent figures.

16% more patients have been referred to a special education class about this condition in the last two years.

Type 2 diabetes is usually related to obesity . There has been a great deal of concern about the increase in cases of Type 2 diabetes.

There has been a further rise in Type 2 diabetes due to the lack of general fitness .

She stated that many young people who are now overweight and have body mass indexes (BMI) of 29 plus.

Another key factor is the island's ageing population with older people more likely to develop the condition.

Weight loss is crucial as is getting fitter.

Those who carry a litlle bit of excess weight, yet are fit, have better odds for the future.
