Schools are able to play a crucial role in reducing the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes, so recent research suggests.
The researchers discovered that secondary school students are less likely to be overweight or obese should the school offer more healthy food, more active PE lessons and a wider health education programme.
Obesity amongst children is a huge problem, with around 1 in 7 children very overweight or obese in the UK, and the problem is increasing.
Obese children have a higher risk of multiple health problems, like high blood pressure and asthma.
They are more susceptible to developing type 2 diabetes too, whereby you have excess glucose or sugar in your blood. Over a period of time, this can trigger serious health conditions, such as, kidney failure and heart disease .
