Asian fast fast food consumers are placing their health at risk, so say scientists suggest.
A huge number of Vietnamese have diabetes, however, they are not aware of it.
This disease is increasingly rapidly throughout South East Asia, so scientists have warned.
A study by Australian and Vietnamese scientists has uncovered that approximately 11% of men and 12% of women in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City have undiagnosed type 2 diabetes .
A further 4% of people have already been diagnosed with this condition.
Australia's Garvan Institute of Medical Research scientists attribute this increase in diabetes to changing lifestyles as well as fast food.
Dietary patterns have altered drastically over the past few years in Vietnam, as cities become more Westernised, with an abundance of fast food outlets.
Hence, with confidence the researchers assert that they can extrapolate their findings to other parts of South East Asia including Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia.
The study sample consisted of more than 2,000 people.
People develop this condition due to high levels of sugar and fat in their diet and due to insufficient exercise .
