Experts are expressing their concern regarding a worrying trend in the increase of children, particularly South Asians, of developing type 2 diabetes at younger ages than previous generations.
Type 2 diabetes is usually found in adults and is mainly caused by obesity . However, teenagers and children as young as 10 are presently being diagnosed with it.
Professor Kamlesh Khunti, a Professor of Primary Care Diabetes at the University of Leicester and a GP, said: "Type 2 diabetes was not something that teenagers and children would get. It was something that adults in their 30s and 40s would be diagnosed with. But now children, particularly from the South Asian population, are getting type 2 diabetes at a younger and younger age."
This is such a shocking trend; it is like a time-bomb about to explode.
Those with type 2 diabetes are not able to make enough insulin or cannot use it properly.
South Asian children are so susceptible due to combination of poor diet, genes and lifestyle.
