80 Per Cent of Men will be Obese or Overweight in 2020

80 per cent of men are going to be obese or overweight by 2020.

Obesity trends amongst adults in England are still rising, which means that there are going to be worrying increases in related conditions and diseases, like, cancer, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes in future years.

Led by Oxford University's Professor Klim McPherson the researchers made the analysis by preparing forecasts up to 2020 for overweight and obesity levels among adults using the most recent data and comparing them to previous estimates.

The analysis also showed a considerable increase in cardiovascular diseases, specifically coronary heart disease (CHD). They forecast a 23 per cent increase in obesity-related strokes by 2050, a 34 per cent increase in obesity-related hypertension, a 44 per cent increase in obesity-related coronary heart disease and a huge 98 per cent rise in Type 2 diabetes.

These figures do not paint a very promising picture of the nation's health . Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90 per cent of all diabetic cases, with obesity being one of its main causes.

Historically diabetes has been a condition which only develops in the 40 plusses. However, Type 2 diabetes is presently worryingly being diagnosed in children aged seven, which was unheard of a generation ago, just due to obesity.
