Australia Appears in Childhood Diabetes Ranking

Australia appears in the childhood diabetes top ten.

Every day two children in Australia are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, so says a new report.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare study has discovered tthat diabetes rates went up significantly between 2000 and 2004, stabilising until 2008.

The incidences of type 1 diabetes is in Australia in contrast to other countries.

Australia has an extremely high rate of childhood type 1 diabetes in children in contrast to several other countries.

It is one of the ten OECD [Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development] which have the highest rate of diabetes in children .

Diabetes is of course placing a huge burden on families.

It is also a huge burden on the healthcare system, children and their families due to the treatment they need to have.

It is a life long condition so this is something they have to live with the remainder of their lives.
