In the USA, Meijer and Giant Eagle are giving free diabetes medicines to customers who have a prescription.
Metformin Immediate Release, the most commonly prescribed medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes, joins multiple prescribed antibiotics and prenatal vitamins available free at the grocer's in Michigan.
Giant Eagle's free diabetes drug program, will also offer five generic medications: Chlorpropamide, Glimepiride, Glipizide, Glyburide and Metformin, aimed at their Columbus and Toledo sores.
Meijer and Giant Eagle joined main grocery retailers Kroger and Walmart many years ago in competing for business by offering free or low-cost generic prescription drugs.
Meijer and Giant Eagle are the only grocers in Ohio offering the free diabetes medication .
