National Charity Chooses Lincolnshire to Focus on Diabetic Care

Tue, 13 Oct 2009

A national charity has selected Lincolnshire as one the three areas of the country to concentrate on the care for diabetics .

Lincolnshire has high rates of diabetes, with 33,028 people in that county being registered with the condition.

Should diabetes not be managed effectively, it can lead to kidney disease, blindness and amputation .

Doctors in the county are blaming high obesity rates as well as Lincolnshire's large elderly population. The two factors contribute to the high number of diabetics in the county.

NHS Lincolnshire hopes to become a leading primary care trust wtih regard to its diabetes services due to to a two year project with Diabetes UK.

Alongside NHS Hammersmith and Fulham and the North Mersey Diabetes Network, Diabetes UK has chosen to work with NHS Lincolnshire due to its commitment to diabetes services as well as its high numbers of diabetics.

This pioneering project is said to result in county patients being offered more choice with regard to their treatment.

The onus is what is best for the patient, customer services and quality of services.

The project considers what is best for the customer, not the NHS.
