Food Intolerance May Affect Half of the UK

Fri, 16 Oct 2009

Recent research released by Allergy UK, a charity which helps millions of people who have a food sensitivity, suggest that 45 per cent of the UK's population is affected a food intolerance .

The UK has seen a ten fold increase in people with food intolerances .

Supermarkets are creating 'inner city food deserts'" because we are bombarding our children with chemicals as the food that we are feeding them is not authentic; it is just contains lots of food additives, colourings and flavourings.

We have margarine, modified milk and artificial sweeteners. We also have multiple manmade sugars which have been added into our diet in the last 25 years which has led to our having hyper sensitive immune systems which react to everything we eat.

Food intolerance is known to lead to weight gain and diabetes . Should people eat directly from a chemical lab then diabetes, obesity, cancer and heart disease are going to be the result.

The stresses of modern life, like food additives and pollutants add to cases of sufferers who have chronic inflammatory diseases like Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), arthritis and migraines . There is a lot of evidence which points to the fact that more people in the UK have food intolerance than ever before.

Food intolerance happens due to a slower reaction to foods we eat. Whilst it is not life threatening, it can make the sufferer feel pretty unwell.

Food intolerance is on the rise due to poor soil quality, pollutants, food additives, intensive farming and stressful lifestyles. All of this puts added pressure especially on our guts.

Bloating and IBS can be a result of food intolerance, as can eczema, other skin conditions, depression and inflammation. In many cases, individuals do not always think food to be the cause.

Glasgow-based Lazy Day Foods worked with experts from Glasgow Caledonian University's knowledge transfer team to market food that's nutritious as well as safe for those with intolerances.

Everything they make is gluten, wheat, egg and dairy free, including chocolate fudge cake, shortbread and chocolate gingers.
