According to a recent study, those people with type 1 diabetes face a greater risk of death than relatives who do not have the condition. The study was published in Diabetes Care and conducted by experts at the University of Leeds.
The research team studied just under 2,250 diabetes patients, all of whom were under 30 years of age. The team looked at which patients died, and found diabetics in the study were 4.7 times more likely to perish then similar-aged individuals without diabetes.
Life insurance companies who provide diabetic life insurance sometimes charge higher premiums because of this increased risk. However, specialist diabetes life insurance companies may still provide competitively priced policies .
